ANME promotes this national network and the distributed national collection that they house. By joining ANME, a school museum joins the National Register of School Museums. In the Member pages on this site, we bring together, virtually, archival material held in schools and school museums throughout Australia. ANME values our connection to local historical societies that have contributed to this resource.
Schooling in Australia
Schooling in Australia
Celebrating Australia's Educational Heritage since 1996
Drawing together resources that allow the construction of narratives from past times is the work of museums. And so it is with the ANME and story of schooling in Australia, post-colonisation. Our internal research efforts, looking within and beyond our own physical and virtual collection, contribute to this evolving narrative.
Equally important to creating this story of schooling in Australia are the resources held in personal collections across the country. ANME encourages the sharing of such stories and images.
More school museums
ANME recognises that not all school museums in Australia have joined our National Registry. Thanks to the work of the ANME National Representatives in each State and Territory in Australia, we have compiled a listing of such organisations.
Historical schooling gallery and other shared stories
Images of schools and classes tell so much about what it was like to attend school in Australia over the years. Images of school life have been collated from a variety of sources including the generous contributions of members of the public.
Become an ANME member
ANME membership is offered to those school museums that wish to join the Register and enjoy its benefits. Information about the process for joining ANME is found on our ANME Membership page.
