Schooling in Australia has a fascinating history. Our pre-settler history of education is a world treasure, the value of which is only beginning to be recognised and revered. ANME will make effort to recognise these practices in the future. The schooling of Australians since colonisation is better commemorated through collections like ANME’s, those of our member museums and those retained over generations within families.
About the ANME community
The ANME belongs to the people of Australia. Our collection is accessed online and in person by people connecting with Australian educational history for all sorts of reasons. We delight in receiving feedback from members of the public.
“What memories your interesting website has brought up, all of a very different world.”
Representatives from schools and school museums, academics from interstate and overseas, and students from both within the University of Canberra and beyond make meaningful use of the ANME resources.
Supporting Australian School Museums
ANME is proudly affiliated with the Australian & New Zealand History of Education Society (ANZHES) and a member organisation of the Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA). We value the support of these communities in improving our own practice and extend similar support to others in theirs.
Contribute to ANME
There are so many ways to contribute to ANME. If you are a member of a like-minded organisation, perhaps a local historical society or school museum, consider suggesting that your organisation join our network. As an individual there are myriad opportunities.
