While at university, we may be a bystander in a range of situations that aren’t okay. Perhaps we hear someone make a discriminatory joke about sex, gender, or race. We might see someone being harassed, or a person may tell us that they have experienced assault. We may be concerned about someone’s health, or observe that a friend is using alcohol in a harmful way. Most of us want to take action, but don’t know what to do or say to make a meaningful difference.UC Medical and Counselling Centre is presenting a FREE 2-hour workshop on bystander intervention for university students. This training helps to identify safe and effective strategies in common bystander situations, including discrimination, bullying, sexual assault, harassment, intimate partner violence, mental health issues, and the harmful use of drugs and alcohol.The workshop explores how challenging situations affect our perception and decision-making, and offers techniques for taking clear action under pressure. The training also discusses the variety of services that can assist in the community and on campus, including the university’s reporting process.

Elephant Ed is an organisation focused on empowering young people with tools, language and skills to make safe and informed decisions about relationships and growing up. In this session, we will focus on values of respect and empathy - diving into themes of consent, sexual violence, positions of power, being an active upstander and an agent for positive change. Leaning on real-life examples, this keynote will look at how power dynamics, social media, and everyday interactions influence people’s understanding of respect.This session provides an opportunity to reflect, challenge assumptions, and gain tools to navigate conversations with confidence.

In this session that will be run in the UC Queer space, we invite all students who identify as LGBTIQA+ or are questioning, to join Artie McCarthy and Fox Fromholtz from UC’s Pride Alliance to join a conversation about what respect for LGBTIQA+ students looks like at UC. The Victim Survivor Voice is a discussion-based community listening program open to people over the age of 18, who have lived or living experience of domestic, family and/or sexual violence and currently live in the ACT. The program aims to provide opportunities for adults with lived and living experience of domestic, family and/or sexual violence to influence and inform work addressing and responding to domestic, family, and sexual violence in the ACT. This will be a safe, supportive and inclusive space facilitated by the Victim/Survivor Voice team at Women's Health Matters.

The UC Medical & Counselling Centre is offering a free, weekly group for UC students who have been diagnosed with, or think they may have ADHD. Led by Senior Psychologist, Vicki de Prazer, this group will look at understanding and developing strategies to manage concentration, attention, and time more effectively, plus the importance of routine and structure in our day to day lives.

How about putting aside some time for learning about Jesus? Reading about Jesus is an opportunity to join with others and read through the Bible’s accounts of Jesus, to discuss and learn together. We are hosting a mindfulness session on SciTech open to all staff at UC. These will be held on Wednesdays at 2:00 PM in a hybrid format (both face-to-face and online) in Room 6C56.Each session will begin promptly at 2:05 PM and typically runs until around 2:25 PM. The sessions include a short guided meditation focused on simple attention to the breath and bodily sensations. Come as we journey through movement and breath to help us come into our bodies with the use of a soundscape and guided techniques. Reflecting on what has been, what is now and have a little boogie. The intention is to create a safe space for people to listen to their individual body’s needs and follow the natural movement. No experience needed, just a willingness to be open to following your internal compass and play.

We wanted to provide a chance to help you with this. Our English Conversation Club is an informal time, not a structured class. In a small group, we talk about a different topic each meeting, with a native English speaker. Once completed, participants will obtain a first aid certificate that is valid for three years.
