Office of the Chancellor

The Office of the Chancellor plays a vital role in ensuring effective governance and management at the University. It achieves this by offering comprehensive support to the Council and its committees, which includes:

• providing executive support to the Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor
• facilitating the induction of new Council members on the advice of the Chancellor
• considering any relevant legislation and policies relating to agenda items
• coordinating the production and distribution of Council papers
• assisting with the agenda setting and consulting over meeting minutes;
• ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations in relation to financial statements, reporting and governance protocols
• ensuring the Chancellor is briefed in relation to any matters of potential conflict between the Council and the University
• obtaining legal advice required by the Council and advising it about policy and procedural matters.

The Secretariat coordinates both the corporate and academic governance of the University. The Secretariat supports the University’s decision-making processes by providing dependable, thorough, and confidential secretariat services to the Council and its committees, including the Academic Board and subcommittees. Responsibilities of the Secretariat include, but are not limited to:

• Secretariat operations that support the Council and its committees, including the Academic Board and its subcommittees.
• Secretariat operations for handling appeals related to academic decisions affecting students.
• Management of Council and Academic Board elections.
• Maintenance of governance registers within the University.
