Speed Friending

Come one come all! Whether you are a brand new or a returning student, speed friending is a great way to meet new people and maybe create some long-lasting bonds!  You’ll be discussing the most important questions in life, such as your favourite movie genre, ‘pineapple on pizza; yes, or no?’ and ‘do you scrunch or fold toilet paper?’, nah, we are just kidding about that last one, well maybe... but you will find out when you come along to make some new connections! What to expect when you turn up you may ask? Well, come along and you will see us set up outside on the gorgeous grass on the UC Concourse Lawns, that has accessibility of a ramp on the far end next to building 6 and 7. the event itself is on flat grass. There will be corflutes around with questions and long rows of chairs ready. We'll provide directions throughout so no need to worry about not knowing where to go. Our lovely staff will also be around, ready to assist you at all times. All you need to do is sit, bring your cheerful personality ready and be open to talking to new people, as you only get a few minutes to get to know someone before moving onto the next person. We also have fun prompts and an MC on a microphone to further give you more topics to discuss. Once the session is done, we will let you know, and you can continue with your newly made friends onto our next event as there is plenty going on! If you love meeting new people as much as we do, you can come to as many Speed Friending sessions throughout the week as you'd like!  The Social Intensity Scale for this is 5/5 as you will be continuously talking to a range of people for approximately an hour. We are always flexible and willing to work with our students so we want to hear from you if there are any accessibility requirements that will make it easier to attend our event!

This one is for you!  ?As you embark on a once in a lifetime journey along the treacherous terrain that is the University of Canberra, you will undertake a number of challenges to collect your next clue cards and get to your final challenge. Once completed, your timer will finish, and the fastest team wins! Choose your team of (up to) 4 wisely and good luck!  What to expect while undertaking this wild adventure? Fun filled challenges that should take an hour depending on how fast you go, maybe even quicker. There will be approximately 10 challenges to complete starting on the concourse and can be started at any point from 12pm until 2:30pm. You can have 1 - 4 people in each team. Each destination is a riddle that you must solve, with signs and staff around to help if you get stuck. You'll be greeted by staff at each stop to guide you through your challenges. This event involves lots of walking/travel across different sections of campus. Market Day

Time for the biggest event of O-Week: the UCLifex O-Week Market Day! With stalls from UC social, academic, cultural and sporting clubs, there’s no doubt that you will be able to find your people. If none of them interest you, there will be plenty of UC and local organisations who will be able to help you out!  If even that doesn’t interest you, perhaps free stuff will? UCLifex, our clubs and other local organisations will be offering freebies on the day. So why wouldn’t you want to come? If you can only attend one event of O-Week, this is one not to miss! ?Still not sold? How about some live music?! We'll have a stage with live music playing all. event. long! Finishing off the day with Melbourne sensations Play Lunch at 1pm. The event will also be stacked with various other entertainment throughout the day, you'll just have to find them all... Market Day has a range of stalls that line the concourse in the centre of campus. This event has a high volume of crowds with loud live music and other entertainment running throughout the whole event. If you would like to join us when it's quieter, we recommend coming after 1pm when the main act is on stage, leaving less people visiting stalls. There will be lots of free goodies from businesses, internal and external from the University, that are most certainly worthwhile grabbing. The Social Intensity Scale for this is 5/5 as you will be continuously interacting with various attendees and companies as well as having large crowds with loud music.  We are always flexible and willing to work with our students so we want to hear from you if there are any accessibility requirements that will make it easier to attend our event!

Comedy Night

Kick off your university journey with laughs, good vibes, and great company at the UC O-Week Comedy Night with Bec Charlwood! Join us as UCBarx becomes a beautiful outdoor comedy venue, for an evening of hilarious stand-up from some of the national and local comedians. Whether you're looking to meet new friends, unwind after orientation, or just enjoy a night of non-stop laughs under the stars, this is the perfect way to start your university experience. With effortless ability and hilarious candour, Bec delights audiences with anecdotes about her life and other searing observations, while wearing her heart, identity, and values on her sleeve. Bec has been hand-picked to support comedians such as Alan Carr, Josh Thomas, Wil Anderson, Zoe Coombs Marr and Saturday Night Live’s Jay Pharaoh. She has also performed stand-up at Splendour in the Grass, The Sydney Opera House and comedy festival galas and clubs around the country. Continuing her upwards trajectory, Bec is currently working on the latest season of Spicks & Specks as a joke writer Grab a drink, settle in, and get ready for a night you won't forget! The venue is easily accessible with flat ground and no stairs upon entry. Additional chairs and tables are brought in for the event so movement around the space can be limited in certain places, but we are happy to work with you to ensure you're comfortable and can see the stage. Comedy Nights can be fairly busy, but there are more secluded areas in the venue if you ever need a break. The Social Intensity Scale for this is 2/5 as you can choose who you socialise with and to what level, though we ask for quiet while the comedians are on stage (except for laughter of course). We are always flexible and willing to work with our students so we want to hear from you if there are any accessibility requirements that will make it easier to attend our event!

Allday

Join us under the stars for a spectacular night of live music during this year's O-Week celebrations! Set against the beautiful backdrop of the North Concourse Lawns, headlinerAllday is bringing his unique blend of indie, hip-hop, and alternative sounds to this unmissable event! Three years on from his last studio album, beloved Australian rapper, singer and songwriter Allday returns with The Necklace – his long-awaited fifth record. An expansive and textured freefall into a sonic world built between ALLDAY and longtime collaborator, producer Simon Lam, the album is less of a return to form; more a comprehensive and dynamic reminder of Allday’s talent as a charismatic storyteller, and love for the craft.A new creative chapter first teased by the melodic and immersive lead single ‘Access’, The Necklace is a record built on a foundation of rejuvenation, both within Allday as a musician, but also within himself. Personal growth and honesty sits at the core of The Necklace – across its 15 tracks, the listener is invited to experience Allday operating on a new level of confidence and fulfilment. An album that reveals our humanity via bold depictions of our flaws, and constant strides to redeem and better ourselves – whether in relationships or just on our own – The Necklace is an album that isn’t afraid to show us a portrait of Allday tussling with moments of personal clarity and contradiction. The arrival of The Necklace comes after a period of personal rediscovery for Allday, who realised he needed to take a break from music following on from the rigorous album cycle that was 2021’s Drinking With My Smoking Friends. Decamping to Italy for a months’ long stint working on an olive farm was the remedy Allday needed to find himself falling back in love with hip hop as a fan, and to work past creative fatigue and mind obstacles that stopped new ideas from flowing through. The essence of Allday’s tone, his approach to rap and lyrical delivery that audiences have been endeared to over the last decade hasn’t waned on The Necklace – it is redefined and refocused for this new chapter of his life. He thrives in taking himself outside his comfort zone, knowing that the music could likely

The dream we started straight out of high school was meant to be a product of its time and I truly believe that it was.. today we happily conclude that time has come to a fulfilling end. I've learnt to love the process and not the success, how to healthily approach creativity and most importantly, that I just want to be as authentically myself as possible, to be a person, not a persona. This band has provided the experiences, lessons and stories to carry on into our respective futures that we can cherish for life, and for that I could not be more grateful. With that being said, Void Of Vision will live on forever through everything that each of us carry onwards to do from here on out.We never meant to leave a legacy behind but here it is. We’ll see you all for one final tour around the homeland in Feb to leave on the highest note, the biggest and best that we’ve ever been. Thank you for sharing all of this with us, the pleasure was ours." - Jack Bergin, Void Of VisionDon't miss your chance to bid farewell to VOID OF VISION in 2025, supported by some stellar international talent. One final time for the memories.
