Please join BGL's First Nations Team as we welcome Professor Kim Rubenstein, James Blackwell (ANU) and third year law student, Tara Sanderson, for our rescheduled panel discussion on the Voice to Parliament on 8 August 2023, Chaired by Associate Professor Cristy Clark.
BIOGRAPHIES:
Kim Rubenstein is a Professor in the Faculty of Business Government and Law at UC, an Australian legal scholar, legal practitioner, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Kim is a champion for active citizenship and spent 13 years teaching at the University of Melbourne in constitutional and administrative law, migration law and citizenship law and before moving to UC in 2020 was the Director of the Centre for International and Public law at ANU (2006-2016) and Convenor of the ANU Gender Institute (2011-2012).
James Blackwell is a proud Wiradyuri is a Research Fellow in Indigenous Diplomacy at the Australian National University’s Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, as well a PhD Candidate. James’ work centres on prioritising Indigenous voices within predominately white systems of governance. He sees this work as a way to advance Indigenous knowledges and perspectives into spaces previously built around the exclusion of Indigenous voices, and create a greater presence for his community.
Tara Sanderson is a fourth year Law and Arts undergraduate with the Australian Navy, Wiradjuri woman and newly appointed Tutor and Events Coordinator at the University of Canberra's Ngunnawal Centre. Tara shared her experience as an Indigenous person in light of the Voice in a powerful discussion and has agreed to share her experiences again at this panel.
