Participation guide
This participation guide gives you an overview of our competition application process and how to prepare your project files so you can submit a valid and complete competition entry.
Please read through this guide and follow the instructions below before submitting your entry.

The categories and subcategories for this competition are based on the Faculty of Arts and Design current course offerings which will differ depending on the campus location (Canberra or Brisbane).
You can submit a successful school project or your own creative work. We've included some ideas below for each subcategory to get you started.
Please be advised that the use of generative AI is not permitted in the UC Creative Competition.

Arts
Arts
Subcategory - Digital Media/Game Design
Games, Interactive fiction, Audio mixes (but not musical compositions), Interactive Art, Digital painting, Character Designs, Animation (2D or 3D), VR/AR experiences, etc.
Subcategory - Film Production
Short Film (2-3 mins), short film storyboards, etc.
Subcategory - Creative Writing
Short stories, poems, comic book extracts, etc.
Subcategory - Global Studies
A podcast, poster, 2-3 minute video, a short essay, or a photograph with a short (~150 word) annotation on how you see the world/how it should be/any global issue you are passionate about, etc.
Subcategory - Culture & Heritage
Design a historic walk through your suburb/curate an online exhibition of favourite artworks/video interview of older folk in your family or town/website with their life stories and pictures, etc.

Original photograph or visual representation of building designs, drawings, concepts, models, etc.
Subcategory - Interior Architecture
Original photograph or visual representation of a spatial design proposition exploring a typology of space: exhibition and display, shopfront or commercial, hospitality, meeting or gathering space, etc.

Original photograph or visual representation of commercial/residential/environmental landscape design, streets, boulevards, gardens, parks, playgrounds, etc.
Subcategory - Building and Construction Management
Original photograph or visual representation of a bridge or a construction site, a process or a product.

Subcategory - Journalism/Sports Media
Examples of non-fiction story-telling such as feature stories, profiles, essays, personal experiences, videos, blog posts, photography, podcasts.
Subcategory - Marketing Communication/Corporate and Public Communication
Brand or marketing communication project/idea, brief report explaining a public relations idea or project, or a media release or any piece of promotional creative e.g. poster, flyer, infographic, series of social media posts with visuals, etc.

Subcategory - Industrial Design
Product design, furniture design, vehicle design, etc. Consider how you could make it sustainable.
Subcategory - Interaction Design
Interactive digital product design, system design, web design, mobile web design, tangible/physical interface design, IoT/WoT based interactive product/system, etc.
Subcategory - Visual Communication Design
Poster, brochure, card, street-art/paste-up/mural, typographic illustration, logo artwork, animated graphics or signage.

Subcategory - Acting/Drama/Performance
A creative response to a script, scene or monologue from a published play in the form of a video or short film, or from an original script. An original script scene for a film or stage performance. A concept for a performance or event involving community or professional actors.
Subcategory - Applied Fashion
Garment design illustrations, Fashion Illustrations, Costume designs in illustrations, Wearable art illustrations, Accessories, shoes and bag design illustrations, Photography of garments specially made for the competition, with images of the garment development and ideation processes, Fashion design portfolio pages, Fashion focused branding, fashion communication collateral and any other fashion-related creative outcomes.
Subcategory - Contemporary Music Practice
Musical compositions, studio productions, or accomplished sound design that demonstrates considerable skill and artistry, or innovative technology or practices that assist in music creation or promotion.
Subcategory – Visual Arts
A photograph of your own original artworks in 2D or 3D that can include, but is not limited to: drawings; paintings; printmaking; photography; or, sculptural and ceramic pieces. You may also wish to include developmental sketches and process work as part of your finished submission.

You may only submit ONE project per online entry. If you upload several projects within a single online entry, we will only consider the first project in the entry. Your entry may also be disqualified.
Multiple entries are allowed. If you do enter multiple times, please ensure all your personal details are the same across all entries.
Our website will feature an online gallery of student works that will include
- your full name
- your state
- your school name
- your year level
- a thumbnail image that depicts your work
- a link to your video, if applicable
- your supporting documents, if applicable
- your project file
This information will be pulled from your entry submission, so please ensure that you enter information carefully and accurately.
Please fill in all your personal details correctly, checking spelling as you go.
If you are under the age of 18, the parental consent section will need to be filled out and digitally signed by a parent/guardian.

Title of my project
Please enter a title for your work. Should we choose to feature your project in our online gallery of student works, this title will be displayed on our website.
Short description of my project
Please describe your project using a minimum of 200 characters (600 characters maximum). Should we choose to feature your project in our online gallery of student works, this short description will be displayed on our website.
Supporting document
This is an expansion to the short description because 30 words may not be sufficient for you to describe your submission in full. Feel to skip this step if you are satisfied with your short description. Otherwise, please prepare a supporting document that fully explains what your work is about. We’d also love to know what inspired you, and how you went about creating this project. Should we choose to feature your project in our online gallery of student works, this full project description will be made available for download. This document must be prepared in PDF or DOC/DOCX format only. Maximum file size: 15MB
Main project image
Please prepare one image that can be used as a visual representation of your project/artwork. This image will be featured on our website projects page and during the People's Choice Award if your work is selected for viewing and voting. In some cases your image may be reshaped as outline in the Terms and Conditions in order to meet the format of the online gallery. You are encouraged to also upload an image of your work under the project file especially if the image of your work is wide and short. The image must be at least 600px wide and in JPG format. Maximum file size is 5MB
This is where you will upload your project file, additional images or higher quality images of your project. Please ensure this is the complete and final version of your work.
- Video link: If you are submitting a video as your project, please upload your video entry to YouTube or Vimeo and provide an unlisted link to your application entry. Please do not make your link private as we will not be able to view your video. If you would like to include a video to demonstrate your main project, please include your video link in your project file.
- Project file size: We will only accept a project file that is 15MB or smaller through our online entry form. If your project file(s) is larger than 15MB, you may share your work via a shareable link from a popular file sharing site such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, WeTransfer etc. Please ensure your file is public and that your file sharing link is accessible to our judges until 13 November.
