Sun’s out, exams are over and the festivities begin - as 2024 comes to a close, Canberra comes alive.
With plenty of free time on your hands, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out and about in the city and surrounds. Read on below for our suggestions on how to enjoy the best holiday season in Canberra this year.

Grab a hat and some sunscreen and soak up the atmosphere at Manuka Oval with your pals.

Germany is well known for its spectacular Christmas markets - but as it turns out, you don’t need to fly all the way to Europe to experience them. The German Markets are a unique experience at the iconic Harmonie German Club. Indulge in schnapps, sausages and cakes while you catch some cultural entertainment and specialty stores over the Canberra holiday season.

Christmas in Canberra has come early with A Very Canberra Comedy Festival Experience. Catch a preview of next year’s comedy festival with this two-hour gala event at Canberra Theatre. The show is jam-packed with comedy superstars to keep you laughing all night long, and just might give you the inside scoop on which shows to see next year.

Head out to Exhibition Park for a sun-soaked weekend at one of the best things to do this summer - the Canberra Christmas Market. Expect stalls selling delicious treats and hand-crafted wares, as well as some fun entertainment for all to enjoy. If you’re looking for a place to buy some cool presents, this would be it.

January heats up in Canberra with the return of the Workday Canberra International. This is your chance to witness world-class tennis as the next generation of champions launch their 2025 seasons. This year includes a ‘Live & Loud’ site featuring live music, food and beverage trucks. The holiday season in Canberra never looked so good.

Escape the heat of the city with a trip to Casuarina Sands Reserve. This lush, sunny spot is located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River just outside of Canberra. You can swim, hike, fish and ride your bike. There are also excellent spots to picnic, with facilities like barbecues and toilets on site.
Sometimes nature can be unpredictable - remember to check for any alerts before you head out on the day.
