At UC, we understand your goals and aspirations, and the challenges you might face when starting your career. No matter where you’re at in your academic journey, we've got career support services to prepare you for life beyond the classroom. This is why we’re #1 in the ACT for full-time employment and starting salaries!
So where should you begin? Let’s take a look at some of the career services we provide for international students here at UC.
Our comprehensive career services are here to guide you as you begin career planning, resume building, and job searching.
Navigating the job market can be intimidating, especially in a different country. If you’re not sure where to turn, your first stop should be Careers UC. Here, you can get one-on-one help with planning your career, attend a resume development workshop, or get information on internships and mentorships.
If you’re new to networking, you don’t have to dive in alone! Careers UC holds career fairs and employer events, connecting you with businesses and potential mentors in your chosen industry. They also provide a Career Coaching Program with UC alumni - matching you with a mentor to help make your transition into the workforce as smooth as possible.
The best part is - these services are available to you for a full year after you graduate, so you can start working in Australia’s highest-earning city with our support every step of the way.
Picture yourself gaining hands-on experience in your field of study - this is where UC's internship and placement programs come in. Students in all fields of study have the opportunity to participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) - which could be anything from a local placement to an international internship.
These opportunities are more than just additions to your resume - they provide a deeper understanding of Australian industries, workplace dynamics, and professional expectations.
Our careers team is available to help you secure placements and internships, and provide support during your experience.
If you’re interested in working while you study, take a look at CareerHub for casual and part-time opportunities right here on campus, advertised to students first. This is a great way to start getting some work experience in a familiar environment, before taking your first steps into full-time work.
International students (subject to visa requirements) are allowed to work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term time, and unlimited hours during academic breaks.
CareerHub is also a dedicated portal for external employment opportunities and volunteer roles. Both working and volunteering add to your resume while teaching you valuable practical and interpersonal skills. By engaging with external organisations and businesses, you can get an idea of the kind of work you enjoy doing while making friends and giving back to the community.
UC Talent is an online job portal advertising roles available at the University of Canberra. From administrative and operations roles to lecturer and research positions, UC Talent is your first port of call if you’re interested in continuing your career within UC after you graduate.
Whether you're exploring potential career paths or seeking advice on professional development, our experienced team of career advisors is ready to offer personalised assistance from your first day on campus to graduation and beyond. Come and chat with the team at Careers UC today!
