My motivation for this project originally stemmed from my love for the visual arts and design and the exciting challenge I would face by solving the ergonomic and aesthetic problem of institutional-like grab bars.
As I became more entrenched in the research, interviews and reflection of my project, I connected with the struggles my mum and many like her face when future-proofing environments like the bathroom in their home.
Learning how the lack of meaningful design in mobile devices like the grab bar has such a mammoth impact on the quality of life of those around us; being a constant catalyst of old age or decline in ability; is something I valued enormously and believe strongly should be brought to the attention of the world of design.
