Bus Shelter

As part of my year 11 engineering class I was handed the task of designing a new bus stop that addresses the problems the school bus bays have. I had to utilise different materials depending on their load capacities and create a structure that would be able to stand if built. The concept I came up with looks aesthetically pleasing as well as being functional. The addition of glass helps people in the stop see their on coming bus and the use of timber screening over both windows allows for a cooler space, blocking majority of the sun coming in. I also added in the thought of a green roof as turf is a great insulator helping keep the structure cool in summer and warm in winter. The addition of the MCC sign gives individuality to the shelter and also could act as a great advert for people passing by. This project challenged my thinking and the way that I envision a structure making me consider the actual loads of different materials and if they will be suitable for the build. Not just looking at the pure aesthetics of each material but utilising materials that will fit the purpose of the structure.
