The Untangling – Self-portrait

The Untangling depicts myself on the aerial hoop being dangled by several strings, under the control of my own hands. In this artwork I am both the puppet and puppet master to symbolise my journey to finding who I am as an individual and regaining control over my mind and body in order for me to “untangle” myself. Both myself and my aerial studio that I train in are based in the south of Brisbane. My studio and aerial arts have guided me on my mental health journey and provided me with new opportunities that I am immensely grateful for; with the incredible support from the people that surround me there, to the strength and sense of self-worth that the sport itself has helped me to find in myself.
