“Any experience is good experience.”

BACHELOR OF INTERIOR DESIGN, 2011

UC graduate Rhiannon Campbell is on her way to becoming a lead Canberra designer. Since graduating with her Bachelor of Interior Design in 2011, Rhiannon and her business partner have created their own design company, Design Camp, working on both residential and commercial interior and exterior projects. Rhiannon has also worked with Thylacine as well as Iken Commercial Interiors, and helped design several Canberra landmarks, like The National Arboretum interior, the Kent Street bridge screens, a DFAT OPO exhibition, and the Canberra 100 celebrations exhibit.

These projects have increased Design Camp's breadth and exposure, helping Rhiannon secure more work in the future to continue to hone her craft and passion. "Design and art are the same to me; they are a legacy - a way of leaving behind a blueprint. This is where my passion for design comes from - it burns deep within me every moment."

Rhiannon's work at Canberra's National Arboretum has been especially eye-opening, and in some ways, Rhiannon considers this her first crowning achievement. Since its completion, thousands of people have admired the work.

While at UC, Rhiannon studied under legendary Canberra designer Karina Harris of Harris Hobbs Landscape Architecture. "From those few hours a week, Karina helped me obtain a passion for design and art history - she was inspirational and not only made me laugh, but had me look forward to her class every week. She encouraged us to think about design for ourselves." In her spare time, which is becoming harder to come by these days, Rhiannon likes to oil paint and she has had several pieces commissioned and entered in competitions in Canberra and Sydney.

Rhiannon's hard work and dedication to design are really starting to pay off in her blossoming career. She offers simple yet profound advice to design students - "The design industry, like a lot of others, is about who you know. It can be tough long road, but persistence can pay off. Keep pushing and be willing to work hard to gain the experience you require."
