Training

Training is mandatory for all researchers, planning to work with GMOs, including supervisors and personnel working on the proposed project.  Training will be organized by the Research Ethics and Integrity Unit and the responsible Laboratory manager for nominated staff members in the active handling of GMOs.

For further information please contact the Research Ethics & Integrity Unit via phone 02 6201 5220 or email ucinstitutionalbiosafetycommittee@canberra.edu.au

Facility certification

Exempt dealings require PC1 containment but do not require facility certification. However, work in uncertified PC1 facilities must be carried out in accordance with the Australian/New Zealand Standard, Safety in laboratories, Part 3: Microbiological safety and containment.

Notifiable Low Risk Dealings and Licenced Dealings must be carried out in appropriate facilities (PC 1 or PC 2 facilities) that have been certified by the OGTR. For the certification of a physical containment facility, researchers must complete an application form which the University then submits to the OGTR.

To arrange an inspection, please contact Research Ethics & Integrity Unit via phone 02 6201 5220 or email ucinstitutionalbiosafetycommittee@canberra.edu.au

Please also familiarise yourself with relevant OGTR guidelines and checklists.
