Withdrawing from a course
Withdrawing from a course at the University can have academic, financial, and administrative implications. This page provides guidance on the process and important considerations to help you make an informed decision. Whether you're reassessing your study load or facing unforeseen circumstances, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Before you discontinue your studies, you should speak to the Student Centre to explore other options to help you succeed, such as pausing your study or changing your course.
If you want to take some time off from studying:
- Domestic students and international students on non-international student visas: You can take up to a maximum of 12 months of consecutive non-enrolment before you are discontinued from your course.
- International students on an international student visa: If you are studying in Australia you will need to apply for intermission before the census date. Please submit an Application for Intermission in MyUC.
- If you want to return to study after more than 12 months you will need to reapply.
If you wish to change to a different course at UC please apply via the UC online application portal. Your application will be assessed based on the usual admission criteria.
Once you’ve withdrawn from your course, you’ll need to reapply to UC if you wish to study with us again.
If you decide that discontinuing your course is your best option, complete and submit a Course discontinuation form (International student visa holders) before the Census date. If you withdraw after the census date, you will have to pay for the units and might get an academic penalty unless there are special circumstances.
