So you’ve completed your application to study with us at the University of Canberra. First of all – congratulations! You’re one step closer to achieving your future goals and we’re so excited that you’ve chosen UC to help you along your journey.
However, before you start packing your bags, you will need to apply for a student visa. If you’re working with an Education agent, they will be able to lead you through the process, but if you want to handle it alone, you can!
Here, we breakdown everything you need to know including policy changes, the application process, and where to find the most up-to-date and accurate information.
From 2024, there have been a series of changes to student and temporary graduate visas in Australia as set by the Australian Government’s Migration Strategy. The seven important updates are as follows:
Ready to apply for your student visa? Follow this helpful guide:
Step 1
Once your application to study has been successful, you will be sent a formal Letter of Offer. Carefully read through this document and accept.
Step 2
The University of Canberra will send a Confirmation of Enrolment document to verify your enrolment in your chosen course. Keep this document as you will need it for your application.
Step 3
You may need to provide the results of your English language test to prove you meet the minimum proficiency level.
Step 4
You will need to answer a list of questions as set by the GS requirement during your online application. Some of these questions will include your ties to family, economic circumstances, why you chose Australia, and how you will benefit from your course.
Step 5
Gather the necessary documents to prove your financial capacity and submit these with your application. Use the Department of Home Affairs Document Checklist Tool to find out which documents you need to include.
Step 6
Share proof of your Overseas Student Health Cover. UC’s preferred healthcare provider is Allianz Care Australia and you can find out more information about OSHC here. This is compulsory for most international students in Australia and if you are unable to provide adequate documentation, your visa may be refused.
Step 7
You may need to undergo a health examination to prove you are in good health before your student visa is accepted. You can also complete the My Health Declaration before submitting your application.
Step 8
You will be asked a series of basic questions that you must answer to determine your character. In some cases, you may need to provide a police background check.
Step 9
Once all your documentation is prepared, you can apply online using an ImmiAccount.
Step 10
Continue to stay informed and up to date with your travel requirements upon a successful application.
As a general rule, don’t trust everything you see and read on social media. For accurate and up-to-date information, contact the Department of Home Affairs. UC also has a global network of education agents that can provide support and assistance.
Best of luck on your visa application and please feel free to contact us for any assistance.
