Each semester, the Ngunnawal Centre hosts a Graduation Celebration for UC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates to celebrate their academic journey alongside the UC’s executive leadership, the Ngunnawal Centre, Indigenous Alumni, family, friends and other guests. The Celebration includes presentations from the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, a UC Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Alumni Guest Speaker, serving of dinner and drinks, a graduation cake and photo opportunities with photos with academic regalia.
UC acknowledges the Ngunnawal people, traditional custodians of the lands where Bruce Campus is situated. UC wishes to acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to Canberra and the region. UC also acknowledges all other First Nations people on whose land we gather.

Events
Ngunnawal Centre events are specifically tailored to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The events provide a culturally safe space to interact with other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students from across the university and to create a supportive and community and family environment. Ngunnawal Centre events are often held at the Ngunnawal Centre facility. There are also games and drop-in sessions for students to connect, via the Ngunnawal Centre canvas page.

Office of Indigenous Leadership
The Office of Indigenous Leadership (OILS) provides strategic advice on issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and assists the University to build strong networks and positive community interactions with Indigenous Australians.
Reconciliation Action Plan
In UC’s current Stretch RAP 2021–2024, we have built on what we have learned and introduced new initiatives to improve futures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, now and for generations to come.

If you’re an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student but haven’t met the admissions requirements for direct entry into your desired course at UC, there are alternative pathways and opportunities you can explore.

As a University, we are proud that we live in the country with the world’s oldest continuous living cultures, and we are playing our part to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to keep these cultures alive and vibrant.
We also pay respect to and celebrate the emerging leaders who, through higher education, will grow the knowledge and qualifications that will equip them for rewarding and influential careers.
We acknowledge University of Canberra courses are offered on Ngunnawal Country – Bruce campus, Eora Country – TAFE NSW Northern Sydney (St Leonards) and Yuggera Country – TAFE Queensland (South Bank and Mt Gravatt).
