University of Canberra in top 300 universities worldwide for key subjects

Suzanne Lazaroo

27 February 2019: The University of Canberra is ranked in the top 300 universities worldwide for Law, Education, Sociology, and Agriculture and Forestry, according to the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2019.

University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deep Saini welcomed the rankings results, saying that they reflected the University’s constantly growing reputation in teaching and research, and its increasing international outlook.

“It’s an honour to be recognised in the top 300 universities in the world for these key subjects, especially for such a young University,” Professor Saini said.

“We have strengthened our position in key areas, leading with our career-focused approach to deliver a holistic learning experience and great graduate outcomes for our students.”

The University’s Sociology subject leapt a band in the world rankings, from the 251-300 band last year, to now being ranked in the 201-250 band.

“Sociology’s leap in the world rankings proves our commitment to driving social change in a contemporary environment, based on a solid platform of teaching and learning informed by research.”

In the national subject listings, Agriculture and Forestry, Computer Science and Information Systems, and Education also rose in the ranks, as did the broader Arts and Humanities category.

The rankings include 1,222 universities across the globe for 48 subjects in 5 subject areas.
