UC opens new chapter with Brumbies

Antony Perry

9 March 2017: The University of Canberra has opened the next chapter in its long-running relationship with the ACT Brumbies by signing on as a jersey sponsor for the 2017 Super Rugby season.

The one-year deal was announced on Thursday and will see the University’s logo appear on the back of all Brumbies home and away playing jerseys.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deep Saini said the University valued its relationship with the two-time Super Rugby champions and was looking forward to strengthening ties.

“We have a long history with the Brumbies and I’m delighted to see this relationship continue,” Professor Saini said.

“I’m thrilled to announce the next stage of this exciting partnership and look forward to joining staff and students to cheer on the Brumbies this season.”

The agreement reaffirms the University’s support of the Brumbies, which dates back to 2012, and paves the way for greater interaction between the two organisations.

The club’s training base and headquarters are located at the Sporting Commons at the University’s Bruce campus.

Staff and students from the University have long benefitted from the co-location arrangement. Students from a range of disciplines have undertaken internships with the club and researchers at the University’s Research Institute for Sport and Exercise often work in tandem with Brumbies high performance staff.

Brumbies chief executive Michael Thomson said he looked forward to growing the relationship between the organisations.

“As an alumnus of the University of Canberra I am a strong supporter of the institution and appreciate the opportunities that it affords its students,” Mr Thomson said.

“We have an excellent relationship with the University, with our offices being located on campus, and it’s a partnership we will be continuing to evolve.”

Staff and students wanting to support the club are encouraged to join the University’s own supporter group, the rUCkus Crew, with deals on tickets, a supporter t-shirt, access to pre-game BBQs and buses to and from home games.

Discounted memberships are also available for staff and alumni. Contact the Brumbies membership team for more information.
