UC welcomes next steps on campus community development

22 November 2021: The University of Canberra today welcomed the announcement by Australian real estate development company Peet Limited of the next steps in the development of the campus community precinct with the acquisition of strategic landholdings from the University to progress residential development.

The University of Canberra Master Plan, released in March 2021, outlines a vision for campus supporting a living, working and student population of 45,000 made up of 12,000 residents, 15,000 students and an enterprise and business population of over 18,000.

UC continues its focus on being an integrated learning community where scholars, students and the public intermingle; organisations from nearby and around the world collaborate with the University, creating new knowledge, providing work-integrated learning opportunities for students and developing solutions; and generations mix, from childhood years to senior years, in a common commitment to lifelong learning.

“Today’s announcement progresses the vision of the UC Master Plan and enables the University to invest in major strategic initiatives that support our core mission of academic excellence,” said Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Paddy Nixon.

“The University of Canberra’s master plan envisages a campus connected to our surrounding suburbs with a significant increase in the number of Canberrans living their educated life as part of our community.

“The proposed development better connects the University with the town centre enabling a more natural connection between the university core, Lake Ginninderra and the Belconnen town centre.

“As custodians of the University’s land endowment, this next step also realises the capacity of the university to plan for the long-term investments we need to make in our campus, teaching and research.”
