What does masculinity look like in the 2020s? BroadAgenda to tackle gender equality at first Talk Series of the year

10 February 2020: Have we, in our quest for gender equality, done more harm than good? What does it mean to be a man in the modern world?

The 50/50 by 2030 Foundation at the University of Canberra will host a panel of experts in the first of the 2020 BroadAgenda Public Talk Series; with a powerful line-up of feisty commentators to discuss Emancipation of Men: Masculinity at the Crossroads.

Lead by the Chair of the 50/50 by 2030 Foundation, Virginia Haussegger, the panel aims to interrogate the issue of masculinity and the role of men and boys in ending toxic male responses to a perceived power imbalance.

“The #metoo movement has brought the issue of masculinity and particularly ‘toxic masculinity’, to a critical juncture. We must talk about that. It’s time to have a really frank and open discussion about what is going on for men right now, as a renewed feminism sweeps the globe. Most importantly, we need a better understanding of the role men and boys can play in tackling gender inequality,” said Virginia Haussegger, chief editor of BroadAgenda.

Emancipation of Men: Masculinity at the Crossroads will be held at the Ann Harding Conference Centre at the University of Canberra on Thursday 13 February from 5.30pm-7.30pm. Click here to book. This event is proudly sponsored by the Faculty of Business, Government and Law (@UCBGL).
