5 February 2018: The University of Canberra will welcome more than 12,000 students to campus as Orientation Week gets underway TODAY.
O-Week is designed to help students to settle in and get ready for university life ahead of classes starting the following week.
There’s plenty of activities and events on offer including a welcome breakfast, beach party, social sports, speed friending and more. Students can also attend course advice and study skills sessions to find out more about their degree and the study help available.
Staff will be on hand to help students finalise their preparations ahead of the semester, be it enrolling in classes or getting familiar with campus via a tour.
New students will be officially welcomed to campus by Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deep Saini at the Commencement Ceremony on Tuesday. Alumnus and co-founder of OK RDY, a mentorship and skilled-volunteer matching program, Tim McKay will deliver the commencement address.
In his speech Mr McKay will encourage students to seek opportunities for practical experience before graduating and remind them that it’s ok to ask questions.
“The lecturers I had at UC were instrumental in helping shape what OK RDY is today,” the Bachelor of Public Relations graduate said.
“Their insights into industry and openness about their various industry roles really helped not just me, but other students connect with life after study and some of the opportunities that were available. I’m very lucky that many of those teachers are still my mentors and supporters today.”
