Discover your next career at UC’s Health Open Day

2 June 2017: Be one of the first to respond to a fictitious new outbreak of Ebola virus disease or help re-enact a scene involving a patient presenting with trauma symptoms at the University of Canberra’s Health Open Day TOMORROW.

In a University-first, the Faculty of Health is giving people wanting to pursue a career in a health or sport-related field a sneak peek at what it’s like to study at the University of Canberra.

Aspiring health professionals will be exposed to scenarios they are likely to encounter in their future profession through a range of interactive workshops and demonstrations.

Prospective students will also be able to tour state-of-the-art facilities and speak one-on-one with faculty experts to learn about their chosen field.

“Health Open Day is a chance to discover how a university degree can kick-start a new career,” Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Professor Dominic Upton said.

“Prospective students may not have the skills of a graduate yet, but they’ll leave Health Open Day with a clear idea of what they’ll experience while studying with us and beyond.

“It’s a great opportunity to explore some of the fantastic facilities on campus such as our cutting-edge laboratories and sport facilities.”

Study areas on display include medical imaging, nursing, occupational therapy, sport and exercise science, nutrition, and more. Visitors will also be given a first look at the new speech pathology and optometry programs, which will be available to students next year.

From understanding how medicine is made to identifying objects using advanced imaging equipment, budding health professionals will leave Health Open Day eager to enter one of Australia’s fastest growing industries.

A sausage sizzle and giveaways will take place throughout the event. For more information, visit the Faculty of Health website.
