18 January 2017: More than 1,100 school-leavers have been offered a place to study at the University of Canberra through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) main round released tonight.
The University made 1,134 offers in the UAC main round, an 11.6 per cent increase on last year (1,016 offers).
The University also made more offers in the early rounds, with 1,372 offers compared with 1,297 in 2016.
A total of 2,506 prospective students have received a UAC offer to study at the University in 2017 – 193 more or an increase of 8.3 per cent compared with the previous year.
The number of offers to local residents remains strong (50 per cent), with an increased number of applicants from New South Wales also choosing to study in Canberra.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Nick Klomp said he was pleased to see a growing interest in studying at the University of Canberra.
“We are focused on delivering a student-centred experience and are delighted to be welcoming more students to undertake their degree at UC at a time when the sector is experiencing a decline in applications across the board,” Professor Klomp said.
“Our campus development plans, including the expansion of our health precinct incorporating a cancer care centre, aged care facility and the University of Canberra Public Hospital, in addition to new student accommodation are well underway, so it’s an exciting time for students to be starting their journey with the University of Canberra.”
Popular undergraduate courses this year include building and construction management, forensic studies/law, education, nursing, biomedical science, medical imaging, pharmacy, physiotherapy and sports management.
Interest in postgraduate study also remains strong with a Master of Occupational Therapy and a Master of Physiotherapy in high demand.
If students have questions about their offer, they can call the Student Centre on 1300 301 727 until 8pm tonight. The Student Centre will also be open from 8.30am-6pm on Thursday to help students with course advice, accepting offers and enrolling in units.
While Professor Klomp congratulated those who received an offer in the main round, he reminded applicants not to panic if they didn’t receive the result they were looking for.
“I’d encourage potential students to contact our Student Centre for advice as we have a range of pathway programs available that are designed to help you reach your goal of studying at university,” he added.
Applicants who didn’t receive an offer in the main round have until 25 January to change their preferences for the late rounds.
