Prospective students unwrap early Christmas gifts

21 December 2017: More than 1,200 prospective domestic undergraduate students today received an early Christmas gift in the form of an offer to study at the University of Canberra next year.

The University has made 1,268 offers as part of Universities Admissions Centre’s (UAC) December Round 2, taking the total number of offers made by the University to almost 3,000 ahead of the 2018 academic year.

This represents a significant increase on the 724 offers that had been made at this time last year, with the majority of offers made in the January rounds.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Vicki Williams said the growth demonstrates that the University of Canberra is a destination high on the list of people wanting a tertiary qualification.

“The University of Canberra is committed to delivering a student experience that is unmatched in Canberra and beyond,” Ms Williams said.

“The significant increase in offers made to date this year shows that people like what we have to offer and want the University of Canberra to play a part in shaping their future.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming more students to our University and we‘re looking forward to providing them with a unique and memorable study experience.”

Before today, offers made by the University were primarily through the School’s Recommendation Scheme in November. To date, 1,049 offers have been made to ACT school-leavers.

Popular undergraduate courses in 2018 so far include nursing, sport and exercise science, psychology, pharmacy, architecture, commerce, medical science, and building and construction management. Meanwhile, popular postgraduate courses include teaching, clinical psychology, and law.

The University will also bolster its offering of health-related courses next year with the introduction of the Bachelor of Vision Science and the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.

“We’re constantly striving to provide fresh study options for prospective students,” Ms Williams said.

“Students undertaking these new courses won’t just receive the highest standard of classroom teaching, but they’ll also be able to undertake practical learning opportunities in the various world-class health facilities located on campus in our rapidly developing health precinct.”

If students have questions about their offer, they can call the Student Centre on 1300 301 727 until 5pm tonight.

People can also attend Course Advice Day TODAY (21 December), which is being held at the University’s Bruce campus from 10am to 2pm.

“We encourage everyone wanting to study at the University of Canberra in 2018 to come along to Course Advice Day for a preview of university life,” Ms Williams said.

Applicants wanting to change their UAC preferences have until midnight on Wednesday 3 January 2018 ahead of the next round of offers.
