26 October 2016: Live art, three dimensional modelling and an interactive temporary wall at a popular Canberra nightspot are some of the highlights from University of Canberra designers to feature at this year’s Design Canberra festival, launching TONIGHT.
From staff-run workshops at the University campus, to student-led events at venues across Canberra, members of the University community will play a significant role in the 2016 festival.
University of Canberra alumni also feature prominently during the month-long celebration, with industrial designers Tom Skeehan and Rene Linssen having their work showcased.
Associate professor of creative and cultural practice Lisa Scharoun said the University’s design community had enjoyed being a part of Design Canberra since its creation in 2014.
“Students from all of our design disciplines will have the opportunity to showcase their work, not just to other local designers and industry experts, but members of the public as well.
“We have staff running workshops on campus and many of our graphic design students will work as interns during the festival, gaining valuable workplace experience.”
Dr Scharoun said the event provides members of the University community with a platform from which to showcase their hard work and talent.
“Our students produce high quality, innovative and interesting work and it’s important to gain exposure and recognition beyond the walls of the University,” she said.
“It’s an opportunity for them to thrive as creative practitioners.”
Design Canberra, which runs from 27 October to 25 November, has more than 100 events scheduled, along with a list of international guests. Visit the website for more details.
