UC welcomes bill to reduce red tape

10 March 2016: The University of Canberra will face less red tape when creating joint-venture companies or forming new businesses thanks to legislation introduced to the Legislative Assembly today.

The Red Tape Reduction Legislation Amendment Bill, presented by the ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr MLA, will remove unnecessary processes and administration costs that will allow the University to continue its ambitious campus development projects.

University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Parker AO welcomed the introduction of the bill and the flexibility it will provide the University to enter into new joint ventures without having to seek approval from the government.

"This is the type of regulatory changes that will enable us to attract more business opportunities, generate jobs and deliver our vision for a better campus," he said.

"The proposed amendments will make it easier for the University to become a potential partner in some of the exciting development ventures occurring on our campus and help us achieve a financially sustainable future."
