University of Canberra welcomes Aikman Drive upgrade

2 June 2016: The University of Canberra has welcomed today's announcement by the ACT Government to upgrade Aikman Drive in Belconnen.

The $9.8 million project to be included in next week's ACT Budget will see the duplication of Aikman Drive, adjacent to the University between Ginninderra Drive and Emu Bank.

The project will include the construction of a shared path along the University of Canberra campus' west boundary, along the length of Aikman Drive.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Frances Shannon said the announcement was great news for the University of Canberra community and local residents.

"We are in the middle of a comprehensive campus development project and the announcement of new infrastructure that will help improve access to our campus is very welcome," Professor Shannon said.

"These upgrades will provide a better connection between the University and Belconnen town centre, and will mean safe and easy access to the University of Canberra Public Hospital when it opens in 2018.

"A new shared path for pedestrians and cyclists along Ginninderra Drive will also improve access for staff and students on that side of campus," she said.
