Jess Bibby bids farewell after two decades in WNBL

15 February 2016: The University of Canberra Capitals will bid farewell to veteran guard Jess Bibby at their final game of the season this Saturday.

The 169cm guard known for her trademark pulled-up white socks and lights-out shooting stroke is the all-time record holder for games played in the WNBL. This week's game against Bendigo Spirit will mark her 394th appearance.

University of Canberra Capitals coach Carrie Graf said there is no doubt Bibby has made her mark on the game in Australia.

"Jess will go down as one of the all-time great shooters in this league and she played a key role in the last three Capitals championships," she said. "For her career to last this long following a severe back  injury in her early years  is a testament to her resilience and tenacity."

Bibby has played for the UC Capitals since the 2006/07 season, winning three championships (2007, 2009, 2010). She began her WNBL career with the Dandenong Rangers in 1996, winning two championships with them (2004, 2005). She also took home the WNBL Rookie of the Year award in 1996. Bibby became a WNBL Life Member during the 2009/10 season.

In the international arena, Bibby was drafted to the WNBA team New York Liberty in 2000 before playing in that year's finals series against the Houston Comets. Bibby represented Australia at the FIBA Women's Junior World Championship in 1997, earning a silver medal, and the FIBA Oceania championships in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2011.
