UC pleased with new bill to slash red tape

5 April 2016: The University of Canberra welcomes the passing of new legislation which will reduce red tape allowing it to easily enter new business ventures and continue to grow, while delivering high quality education and research.

The new bill, passed today at the Legislative Assembly, will remove any unnecessary administrative delays and having to seek government’s approval when creating new joint ventures.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Parker praised the swift passage of the legislation, saying it’s a great step to allow the University to be competitive in a level playing field with other tertiary institutions.

“This new legislation will clear the path for the University to attract business opportunities, investment, generate jobs and deliver our campus development vision in a more competitive way,” Professor Parker said.

“The University of Canberra is a mature organisation and to fulfill its planned development and growth, it requires a mature approach to business partnerships. These regulatory changes afford the University the flexibility to determine such matters for itself.

“The University is now best positioned to continue to develop its campus and become a potential partner in some exciting and innovative ventures,” he said.
