UC Capitals sign WNBA point guard

23 September 2015: The University of Canberra Capitals have officially announced today the signing of Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) point guard Renee Montgomery for season 2015/2016.

The 172 cm American player fills the void left by the UC Capitals newest recruit, Kathleen McLeod who had to withdraw from the team due to pregnancy.

Montgomery, a former WNBA All-Star player, currently plays for the Minneapolis-based Minnesota Lynx team.

The arrival of the 28-year-old American player to Canberra will depend on how far the Minnesota Lynx team goes into the WNBA playoffs, having earned a berth in the Western Conference finals against Phoenix Mercury.

UC Capitals head coach Carrie Graf said: "Renee is a major boost to our roster. She brings a wealth of point-guard experience from the highest level to our team. She's a proven winner, who can defend, score and distribute the ball as the team needs."
