Petting zoo, carnival and sumo suits help UC students stress less

11 May 2015: A carnival day, a petting zoo, sumo suits and bubbles are some of the things University of Canberra students will be able to enjoy as part of Stress Less Week that starts TODAY.

Designed to help students de-stress ahead of exams the following week, a number of activities have been organised by UC Life! –  including a jumping castle, bungee run, goats, bunnies and other animals to pat, bubble wrap to pop and a bubble machine.

The exam period can be a stressful time for students, but University of Canberra wellbeing expert Dr Thomas Nielsen said there are "positive psychology strategies" they can put into place. He said these include "self-coping mechanisms like taking care of their sleep, diet and getting some exercise."

  • Dr Nielsen can discuss strategies students can use to cope with stressful situations
  • Campus life coordinator Kristy Hodder can discuss the event
