24 June 2015: The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Professor Stephen Parker, has welcomed the appointment of Nobel Laureate Professor Brian Schmidt as the next Vice-Chancellor of The Australian National University (ANU), from 1 January 2016.
Professor Parker said he was delighted to learn about the appointment.
"I have met with Brian in the past and based on these discussions I believe we can collaborate well together. I look forward to working with him to make Canberra an excellent education city," he said.
"Canberra will benefit by having two strong universities doing different things but co-operating through common commitments to education and research. I send him and the ANU my heartiest congratulations."
