UC commences investigation into alleged serious misconduct by academic

21 July 2015: The University of Canberra regrets to announce that an academic staff member has been suspended without pay following reports from students of alleged serious misconduct.

On receiving the reports, the University immediately referred the matter to ACT Policing, who conducted a search warrant on campus yesterday (Monday, 20 July).

The University has also commenced its own internal investigation. A Review Committee under the University's Enterprise Agreement has been convened as part of the process for considering matters of serious misconduct. The University of Canberra is committed to ensuring a safe campus for students and staff. It takes any allegations of inappropriate behaviour amongst its community very seriously.

A range of support services for all affected students has been put into place, including medical support and counselling at the Medical and Counselling Centre, support through Inclusion & Welfare and access to pastoral and spiritual support.

If any current or former student of the University has concerns, we encourage them to come forward and contact the University's Dean of Students Associate Professor Michele Fleming or contact ACT Policing on 131444. Staff members may consult the Director of People and Diversity, Ms Kirsty Dwyer.

The University is unable to make any further comment at this stage and must allow legal processes to take their proper course. To this end, the University will continue to cooperate fully with ACT Policing.
